Darlington Primary Schools Cross Country
On Tuesday 8th October, 29 junior children represented Mowden at the (rearranged)
Annual Darlington Primary Schools Cross Country. After a fabulous afternoon of
running in surprisingly ok weather, and great amounts of determination, there were
12 children in total who finished in the top 10 in their age group, and therefore were
selected to represent Darlington Schools in the upcoming Tees Valley Cross Country
Event, a brilliant achievement.
In the first 3 races, Year 4 Girls then boys, and the Year 5 Girls, we had 3 amazing
1 st places!!
We also had some fantastic team performances. We had a first place overall for the
Yr3/4 Boys team, a second places overall for the Year 3/4 Boys, Year 5 Girls & Year
5 Boys teams, and a third place for the Yr6 Girls team. Overall we finished 2 nd , this is
a superb accomplishment!
We are particularly proud of the children for being so supportive of not just their
teammates, but also other year group teams from Mowden, and also other runners
from other schools.
A fantastic effort by all Runners in all teams!
A massive well done
Year 6 Active 60 Sports Leaders
On Thursday 10th October eight children from Yr6 went to the Dolphin Centre with Mr Garmston to
do their Sports Leaders Active 60 Award.
The award involves the children taking part in leadership training that will then enable them to lead
organised sport, games and play back at school. The award does not require children to have a
specific level of sporting ability as this isn’t always necessary to be able to organise and lead games.
Sports Leaders that complete the award must be able to communicate effectively, be organised,
take responsibility and work with other people; all core skills, which are important throughout life.
The children showed some great leadership skills and great initiative!
Say hello to our Sports Leaders:
Olivia

Autumn
Well done, I look forwards to working with you in the very near future to plan some amazing
opportunities for our children here at Mowden.
Yr6 Tag Rugby Boys
On Friday 11th October, a team of ten boys went to Darlington Rugby Club for the Darlington Primary
Tag Rugby Finals, this had been rearranged due to poor weather the previous week.
On the day, they competed alongside 5 other school teams, and after playing 5 really tough games,
the boys had won 3, drawn 1, and lost 1.
This meant overall, they finished in third place overall, a great effort.
The boys certainly enjoyed their day and learnt lots about Tag Rugby. They showed great teamwork
and sportsmanship as well.
Well done to all those who took part, you were brilliant.
Yr4 Dodgeball
A team of 10 boys and girls from Year 4 visited The Dolphin Centre to take part in the Annual
Darlington Primary Schools Dodgeball Tournament. They finished 1st in the first stage, which meant
they went into the top tier for the next stage of the competition.
In this Tier they won 2 games, but lost 1, with all being very competitive games. This meant they had
to go to a ‘sudden death’ final for the gold, but unfortunately, they fell at the last hurdle, but still
went home feeling proud of their efforts and with Silver Medals!
All the children were brilliant, well done to all who took part!!
Tees Valley Cross Country
On Wednesday 16th October 12 KS2 children represented Darlington at the Annual
Tees Valley Primary Schools Cross Country which was held at Stewart Park in
Middlesbrough. They had all qualified to compete by finishing in the top 10 in their
respective races, at the Darlington Primary Schools competition, held a few weeks
earlier.
All 12 children represented Darlington and Mowden with pride and demonstrated an
amazing amount of effort, running against the best in the Tees Valley, with each race
having over 50 children in it.
We had several children in the top 20, a 4 th place (Lorna) in the Yr3/4 Girls, and a
winner overall in the Yr5 Boys race, Lyla!!
A fantastic effort by all Runners in all teams!
A massive well done
Yr6 Tag Rugby Girls
On Thursday 17th October a team of 10 girls went to Darlington Rugby Club for a great afternoon of
Tag Rugby, competing alongside 7 other school teams.
After playing 3 group games they narrowly missed out on the semi-finals, winning 1 but narrowly
losing 2. However they got to play 2 more games and they won both, finishing on a positive and
scoring lots of great tries during the afternoon.
The girls certainly enjoyed their day and learnt lots about Tag Rugby.
Well done to all those who took part, you were brilliant.
